VLC Media Player is one of the most popular, free, and open-source media players available. It plays almost every audio and video format you can throw at it — with no need for extra codecs.

✅ How to Use VLC Media Player
1. Download and Install
- Official website: https://www.videolan.org/vlc/
- Available for Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS
- Install and open VLC — you’ll see a simple media control interface
2. Play a Media File
- Click
Media > Open File…or drag and drop a file into the window - VLC starts playing it immediately

4. Add Subtitles
- VLC will auto-load subtitles if the
.srtfile has the same name as the video - Or:
Subtitle > Add Subtitle File…to load manually - Customize size, font, position:
Tools > Preferences > Subtitles / OSD
5. Switch Audio or Subtitle Tracks
- Use the top menu:
Audio > Audio Track
Subtitle > Subtitle Track
6. Play DVDs and Blu-rays
Media > Open Disc…- Choose DVD, Blu-ray, or ISO image
- Click Play
🔹 Note: VLC doesn’t support all encrypted Blu-rays by default. You may need to install extra libraries (like
libaacs.dll) manually.
7. Stream Online Media
- Go to
Media > Open Network Stream… - Paste the URL of a video/audio stream (YouTube, internet radio, etc.)
- Click Play
✔️ Can also stream IPTV playlists in .m3u format
8. Convert Media Files
- Go to
Media > Convert / Save… - Add your file
- Click Convert / Save
- Choose output format (e.g., MP4, MP3)
- Set destination and click Start
9. Record or Screenshot Video
- Click
View > Advanced Controlsto show record button - Press the red ● button to start/stop recording
- Take a screenshot with Shift + S
