AS SSD Benchmark is a lightweight, no-installation-needed utility used to benchmark the performance of SSDs (Solid State Drives). It is especially useful for measuring sequential and random read/write speeds, access times, and drive responsiveness under heavy I/O loads.

πŸ“¦ What AS SSD Benchmark Measures

Test TypeDescription
πŸ” SequentialMeasures large file read/write speeds (MB/s)
🎯 4KTests random small-file performance using 4K blocks (important for OS speed)
βš–οΈ 4K-64ThrdSimulates 64 threads accessing 4K blocks (tests drive controller & queueing)
⏱️ Access TimeTime taken to access data (lower is better)
πŸ“Š ScoreProvides a general performance score for comparison
πŸ§ͺ Compression TestShows performance across different compressibility levels (0–100%)

πŸ› οΈ How to Use AS SSD Benchmark

βœ… 1. Download the Tool

βš™οΈ 2. Launch and Select Drive

  • Double-click AS-SSD.exe.
  • Select your SSD from the drop-down list at the top.
  • AS SSD will automatically detect the drive and its partitions.

▢️ 3. Run the Benchmark

  • Click Start to begin the test.
  • Tests typically take 1–5 minutes, depending on the drive.

Optional:

  • Click β€œFile” > Copy Benchmark: Tests copy performance with ISO, Program, and Game-type files.
  • Click β€œTools” > Compression Benchmark: Graphs read/write speed over different data compressibility levels.

πŸ“Š Understanding the Results

TestGood Range (SATA SSD)Good Range (NVMe SSD)
Sequential Read400–550 MB/s1500–7000+ MB/s
Sequential Write400–520 MB/s1000–6000+ MB/s
4K Read25–40 MB/s40–80+ MB/s
4K Write70–120 MB/s100–300+ MB/s
Access Time (Read)0.03–0.1 ms0.01–0.03 ms
Access Time (Write)0.05–0.2 ms0.02–0.05 ms
  • A higher score and lower access time = better performance
  • Performance can vary based on drive type, interface (SATA/NVMe), and system load

πŸ’‘ Tips

  • Close background apps before running the test for accurate results.
  • Avoid benchmarking on drives with low free space or when thermal throttling might occur.
  • Use administrator rights for better compatibility with some drives.
  • If you see β€œstorahci” in the driver info, your system is using Microsoft’s default AHCI driver β€” consider installing the latest Intel or AMD storage controller drivers for best performance.

πŸ” Alternatives

  • CrystalDiskMark – More modern UI, similar tests
  • ATTO Disk Benchmark – Better for professional/enterprise testing
  • Anvil’s Storage Utilities – Comprehensive drive analytics including latency and IOPS
