WinLister Description
WinLister is a simplistic software application that enables you to view all active windows, whether they are maximized, minimized or hidden from display. It shows some technical details about them, such as class, location on the disk, and whether they stay on top of other frames or not.
No setup required
This is a portable tool, so there is not installation involved. This means that you can save the program files anywhere on the HDD and just click the executable to launch WinLister. Another option is to move it to a removable storage unit to run it on any PC without previous installers. It doesn’t change OS registry settings.
Well-organized interface with intuitive options
At startup, it automatically loads all open windows in a list, showing their title, visibility status, location (coordinates relative to the screen margins), size, handle code, class name, top most status, if they tool, app or popup windows, process and thread IDs, file and program names, description and version, along with company.
Control windows and export information
It’s possible to switch to any active window with one click, close, hide or show it on the screen, toggle the top-most status, minimize or maximize it, place it on the center of the screen, or terminate its process.
Selected entries or the entire list with details can be copied to the Clipboard or exported to file for closer examination. What’s more, WinLister can be asked to display hidden windows, sort the windows in the list on every modification, and customize the columns to show.
Evaluation and conclusion
We haven’t encountered any unpleasant surprises in our tests as far as stability is concerned, because the application didn’t freeze, crash or prompt error dialogs. Its impact on computer performance was minimal, since it used low CPU and RAM to work properly.
To sum it up, WinLister shows a lot of information about the windows of running processes, whether they are visible or hidden, and it can be used by anyone for investigation.
