WinFellow Description

The initial types of computers weren’t fitted with shiny visual elements, interfaces, and all that. You had to adapt to working with command line interfaces, but the computer of today can emulate the one from yesterday, and WinFellow gives you the possibility to turn your PC into a good-old Commodore Amiga system.

Load existing systems or configure a new one

Running the application for the first time might leave you scratching your head for a while, or at least if you were expecting the Commodore Amiga interface to show up. Sadly, this is only possible after loading and configuring the system yourself, and some heavy research needs to be done, because the application doesn’t even come with a sample file.

If you happen to have an ADF, ADZ, GZ, DMS, or IPF image lying around, you can import it in one of the four diskettes slots to get started. On the other hand, you can pay a visit to the configuration panel in order to specify how the system behaves, general controls, and other options.

Set up display options, CPU, memory, and more

Stored in multiple tabs, you get to configure hardware components, such as CPU, memory, floppy, hardfile, filesystem, and more. What’s more, you can directly import preset ROM image files in order to directly emulate options and start the machine directly. You might also want to visit the display tab, because the default configuration takes up the whole screen during emulation.

Among other options, you can review gameport options, with the possibility to set up to four different slots, with options to fill them with mouse, keyboard, and two other input devices of your choice. Sadly, controls can’t be modified, and there aren’t even any included games to try them out. However, you can save your own configurations to file, to later on apply them easier, or even open an existing WFC file you might have stumbled upon online.

To end with

To be fair, WinFellow does come with an impressive variety of technical details to configure, giving you the possibility to configure a Commodore Amiga computer from scratch, with custom CPU, memory, and storage devices. The only downside is that it can take some time until you get that old-school feeling back, because of the lack of any configuration or game presets.
