Windows Migration Assistant Description
Windows Migration Assistant is a lightweight application that was designed to help computer users migrate certain data bits from their Windows-based computers to their Macs. The data includes IMAP e-mail accounts, contacts, calendars, and messages.
It comes with a wizard-like interface and requires users to close some programs before even attempting to transfer information. For instance, email clients or other applications that might interfere with the data that needs to be transferred are to be closed.
The Windows needs to be updated to its latest version, users need to provide the application with valid administrator credentials for the source workstation and the two machines need to be connected to the same network. Connecting the two devices can also be done directly through an Ethernet cable.
After installing the Windows Migration Assistant, users need to quit other active apps, launch the utility and follow the on-screen instructions provided by the interactive wizard. The same tool needs to be started on the Mac and configured so that the transferred data comes from a Windows PC. As stated before, the application will require valid credentials for an administrator account so that it can migrate data as intended. As a security measure, a code will be displayed on both the target and source computers and will require that users confirm the two are identical.
