While users might agree that updates optimize the performance of the programs they are using and can bring new, useful features, one of the things everyone dreads is to constantly keep an eye out for the newest releases. up2Date is a tiny utility that enables you to add in-application updates to your programs, so that both you and the users have the latest versions available.
Before you can deploy the function to your application, first you need to have a web server with MySQL installed and running on your computer. Moreover, you are required to configure the database settings so that it includes the relevant parameters, such as the ID, project name, description, URL and the version.
It is important to note that the ID and project name are features that are useful for developers, as it provides them with an easy method to distinguish between projects. The description value on the other hand, is what is displayed to the user and can serve as a notification when an update for the application is available.
To make things as simple as possible, the URL parameter should include the direct link to the update so that it can be accessed by the user. You should keep in mind that the URL must contain the http:// string as otherwise, the URL class is not able to distinguish the protocol.
Once you configure the database using the aforementioned parameters, you can test the system using the API provided.
