Total Video Player Description

In order to meet various quality demands, while taking up as little disk space as possible, media files come under an abundance of formats. Total Video Player needs no further introduction, if you read its name. As suggested from its title, the application is dedicated to playing video files, but it is capable of processing audio streams as well.

Lightweight and easy to use

Total Video Player features support for some of the most popular video formats (such as MP4, WMV, AVI, 3GP, SWF, MOV, MPEG, etc) and audio types (MP3, MP2, WAV, WMA, AMR, AC3, etc).

The installation process is straight-forward, as is its interface. A minimal, yet easy to understand interface is where you can view the media files. Usage is simple as well: You insert the file you want to play, sit back, and relax.

With this tool you can capture a frame (save as BMP), adjust subtitles (font, alignment and margins, border style, color and transparency), and assign hotkeys to various commands.

Good but far from being a pro

The best thing about Total Video Player is the fact that it can play DVDs, and it does so without getting stuck or anything, except when we tried creating a playlist. Sometimes it crashes, and the whole application needs to be restarted.

We also tried playing a FLV file (because Settings claim the program also supports it), but Total Video Player refused to open it. Another disadvantage is that sometimes it’s difficult to navigate through the software because of some visual glitches (e.g. pressing the options in the menu toolbar doesn’t always work from the start).

In conclusion

All in all, Total Video Player asks for very little and offers a lot in exchange. It may not be as popular as other multimedia players out there, but carries out the same tasks with lesser user efforts. Even though it lets you quickly accommodate, it does not manage to fully live up to expectations.
