Tab Center for Firefox Description

Part of Firefox Test Pilot and inspired by the VerticalTabs addon, Tab Center is a browser extension designed by Mozilla to improve your browsing experience and declutter numerous opened pages. It does this by sorting the tabs vertically instead of horizontally.

Sort tabs vertically instead of horizontally when using Firefox

How it works is that Tab Center creates a column on the left side of Firefox, where each entry reveals the window title, URL and thumbnail of each opened page. Customization options are put at your disposal, enabling you to adjust the column size, hide the column, and quickly find a page when you have many opened tabs.

Drag and drop tabs, adjust the column size, and find pages quickly

A tutorial greets you at startup to demonstrate how Tab Center works. Each new tab is added to a queue and you can re-arrange the tabs by dragging and dropping them by thumbnail. Also, the tab order can be changed from the options menu, so that newest tabs are moved on top while tab shortcuts move in reverse.

Besides using Ctrl+T, you can add new tabs by clicking the first button displayed on the upper-left corner of the window. The search function is next to it, which shows results in real time (as you type), accepts partial matches, and looks in both URLs and window titles.

An icon next to the search bar moves the tabs in the classical horizontal position in case you want to do this without having to disable the extension. Furthermore, you can increase or decrease the size of the column that contains all tabs by clicking and dragging its right margin. The last button hides this column when the mouse cursor isn’t over it, so it doesn’t take up space on the screen when it’s not necessary.

Easy-to-use and practical tab manager for Firefox

Although it’s currently in experimental phase, Tab Center worked smoothly in our tests. We haven’t encountered any stability issues with the latest Firefox version. However, as warned by the developer, it’s not compatible with other browser addons dedicated to tab management, and it doesn’t offer more features for tab management than Firefox. We’re looking forward to new features in upcoming releases, such as moving the column to the right.
