Developed by an active collaboration between Skype Technologies S.A. and Microsoft and based on the high-tech Universal Windows Platform, Skype Preview is brand new app built from scratch to provide you with a plethora of communication possibilities and perfect integration with your Windows 10 PCs and mobile devices.
Right off the bat, you should know that this application can only be installed from the Microsoft Store and it only becomes available for PCs that are running Windows 10 with Anniversary Update or later versions.
Easy to get started with
Since it is a Microsoft Store app, installing it on your PC can be accomplished with no more than one mouse click, since it is automatically deployed and does not require any type of configuration on your part.
As expected, you have the possibility to log in using your official Microsoft or Skype username and password. Once logged in, you can instantly tell that this is way different (and better) than the older Skype client we have been accustomed over the past years, that offers support for the preceding iterations of Windows.
Better than the old version of Skype in practically every tangible way
The first thing that stands out is, of course, the application’s slick and black-themed redesigned interface.
After just a couple of seconds of fiddling about with the app, you are also bound to discover other improvements over the old version of Skype, namely how quickly everything is loaded, how very little lag is present, how fluid all the in-between menus animations really are, not to mention the native, eye-catching Windows 10 notifications.
User-friendly and modern-looking interface
The layout is also quite different, with all the main features easily accessible from the app’s left-sided and simplistic toolbar, making the whole user experience with Skype much more enjoyable.
It does not take long to figure out that this layout is actually much more user-friendly and more geared towards the conversation, more than anything else. That all said, you can effortlessly access the Recent Conversations, Contacts, Settings and Bots sections, as they are always within arm’s reach.
Skype now has Bots that you will either adore or absolutely hate
The latter section is quite interesting as Skype now offers bots for Bing Images, Bing Music, Bing News, Getty Images, two ‘Hello Stranger’ games and a Summarize bot that will feed you the most relevant information about certain topics, with more bots to come in the near future.
Basically, you can type in messages and hope to receive feedback from a server AI. Even more interesting is that you can also interact with the bots by sending photos or files or even Emoji.

As an ending note, Skype Preview might have improved the whole Skype experience in practically every department with the help of modern bits and bobs but probably the most important thing is that it still integrates all the core functions that made the popular app what it is today – instant messaging, group chats, one-on-one or group video or audio calls, all wrapped in a solid package.
