SecureMyBit Description

Designed as a security method for data protection, SecureMyBit is a tiny application that encrypts files and folders using passwords. It also comes packed with a random password generator and file shredder, thus putting at your disposal means to create complex secret codes and securely delete files without worrying they can be undeleted by data recovery software.

Encrypt files and folders in bulk

Installing this app isn’t necessary since you can double-click the executable file from the downloaded archive to bring up the main window and explore features. Thanks to its small size, you can also save SecureMyBit to a USB flash drive and directly launch it on any PC. However, keep in mind that .NET Framework must be installed or it won’t work.

Set the password required for decryption

In the main app window, you can drag and drop multiple selected files or folders from Windows Explorer, as well as enter and confirm the password. The key’s complexity is evaluated by the application from “very weak” to “impossible”, depending on the number and type of used characters (lower and upper case letters, symbols, numbers).

If you fear the computer you’re using might be infected with keyloggers, you can use the virtual keyboard provided by SecureMyBit to click on the buttons instead of pressing them on your physical keyboard. Also, if you’re certain no one is looking over your shoulder, you can unmask the password.

The original files are encrypted and kept in their original location. The difference is that that the file names get appended with the “[Encrypted]” label and cannot be opened with any program. Instead, they have to be dragged and dropped onto SecureMyBit to decrypt them after specifying the correct password.

Generate random keys, shred files and folders

The random password generator can be accessed from the “Tools” menu, where you can include or exclude any type of characters when it comes to upper and lower case letters, numbers, underscore, other symbols, whitespaces, as well as a custom list of any handpicked characters. Moreover, you can set the minimum and maximum length, as well as use the password validator to determine the complexity of any key.

The file shredder has two wiping modes available: quick, which uses one pass, and advanced, which lets you specify any number of passes (the higher, the more secure, but more time-consuming). In addition to files, the tool can shred entire folders.

Configure app settings and view your system specs

As far as program options are concerned, you can prevent the security program from automatically generating a log file after encryption or decryption tasks, minimizing to the systray on close, and checking for software updates. These settings can be restored to default.

Lastly, you can use a system specifications tool that displays your processor ID, motherboard constructor, hard disk serial number, BIOS constructor, CPU frequency and constructor, along with RAM. More details can be obtained by clicking “Show More”.

Powerful and intuitive security tool

Encryption and decryption tasks were carried out fast in our tests while the tool remained light on system resources consumption. All aspects considered, SecureMyBit provides powerful and intuitive features for protecting important files and folders. It can also be used by those with minimal experience in password protection utilities.
