RegScanner Description
RegScanner is a powerful Windows tool designed to help you find specific registry keys based on user defined parameters.
It’s pretty clear that this particular program isn’t quite aimed at beginners, so the lack of a help manual shouldn’t bother advanced users too much.
Still, you may need a minute or two to figure out how to use the program, especially because the search screen is pretty cluttered and full of options, all of which are designed to improve the efficiency of the search process.
You are thus prompted to input the find string and the areas to search, be they values, data or keys. Plus, you can limit the results to a specific number or filter them by date, size or type.
Once you hit the search button, RegScanner starts scanning your computer and a moderate usage of CPU and RAM resources is very likely to take place. The main window is being used to show the results, with information such as registry key, name, type, data, modified time and data length.
It’s very important to note that RegScanner isn’t a registry editor, so a double click on any of the displayed entries does nothing more than to launch RegEdit. You can on the other hand generate reports with the found data or export the selected items to the REG format.
All things considered, RegScanner is a handy piece of software, but it’s a shame that it doesn’t provide registry editing tools. On the other hand, it works flawlessly on all Windows workstations and doesn’t ask for administrator privileges on Windows 7 machines.
