reacTIVision Description

Users who are working with table-based tangible user interface setups require an efficient way of tracking the fiducial markers that are involved in such approaches. Furthermore, they might also require tracking of the multi-touch finger gestures that are an active component of interactive surfaces. reacTIVision was created as a cross-platform that could help users develop their table-based tangible user interfaces (TUI), with numerous tools for tracking fiducial markers.

The application offers users a collection of tools aimed at increasing the tracking efficiency in TUI setups, all packed into a minimalist interface. One will be able to configure the application using the on-screen hints offered in the command prompt window and reacTIVision will support arrow-key adjustment for its sliders.

reacTIVision will implement the TUIO protocol by sending open sound control messages through a UDP network socket to its corresponding client application. This ensures the transmission of the state of tangible objects and multi-touch objects that are found into a table-based interface. Detecting the position of fiducial markers in realtime through the video feed, it will transmit their position and rotation angle to the client application by using the TUIO protocol.

In addition to its core features, the application comes packed with a 216 fiducial markers set, which users can print and implement when setting up the table-based interface. People will be able to calibrate the finger size using the overlay grid provided by the application and afterward they will be able to track any round white region touching the surface and that matches the inputted size.

All the settings are stored into an XML file that can be later on edited and users can perform the desired adjustments and the application will save them automatically.
