Portable Tag&Rename Description

This is the portable edition of Tag&Rename – a tool with a pretty self-explanatory name – it allows you to tag and rename media files. It supports several file types, including 3GP, ASF, FLAC, MP3, WAV and OGG.

Since installation is not required, you can save Portable Tag&Rename to a removable device (like a USB flash drive), store it on any computer and directly run its executable file.

More importantly, no leftover items can be found in the Windows registry or on the hard drive after removing the tool from the computer.

The interface of the application may appear cluttered at a first glance but Portable Tag&Rename is actually easy to work with. Thanks to the Explorer-based layout, you can quickly locate and select tracks for processing.

The file list displays the name, metadata, bit rate, duration and rating of each item. All you have to do is select one or more items, open the context menu and edit tags, lyrics and additional information (e.g. album artist, conductor, radio station name).

Additionally, you can get tags from filenames, set a file renaming pattern (e.g. replace spaces with underscore, change the case), as well as edit the file or folder covert art. But you can also play a selected file in an external media player, copy tags, use a search function, create playlists and swap tag files, among others.

The program supports toolbar customization and multiple languages for the interface, has a good response time and includes user documentation. Portable Tag&Rename uses a moderate amount of system resources and didn’t freeze, crash or pop up error dialogs during our tests. First-time users may take some time to get accustomed to the tool’s features.
