Portable Precision Helper Description

Portable Precision Helper is a professional authoring tool specialized in developing help projects. It gives you the power to organize existing HTML and XML files, scripts, images and other resources into a single layout.

The advantages of being portable

This is the portable version of the program, which means you can deploy it on your system without having to go through an installation process. You may also get rid of it by deleting the files that you have downloaded from the Internet.

What’s more, you can open the utility without administrative privileges, as it doesn’t store Windows registry entries and leftover configuration data. Copying the tool on a USB flash drive or other portable devices is also possible.

Clean feature lineup and importing/exporting options

Portable Precision Helper adopts a ribbon-like interface and integrates a multi-tabbed layout so you can work with different projects at the same time. The application allows you to import data from HHP and CHM file format and export it to HHP, CHM, WebHelp, EPUB and PDF format or publish the current project as a single HTML file.

The tool gives you the possibility to store configuration settings and contents of a help manual with the aid of projects. It also includes a built-in project manager that enables you to check out a list with recently opened projects, and edit or delete them.

Table of contents

Portable Precision Helper allows you to define a table of contents by adding various topics (there’s support for several preset ones), embedding headings, removing items and performing searches. Additionally, you may sort the topics, automatically insert topics into contents, and create a new topic based on a custom URL, file or clone of another topic.

Index of keywords

The application helps you define a structured index, automatically insert keywords from topic titles into the index, use a predefined external editor for editing options, print and preview data, and search for keywords.

Context-sensitive help editor and other editing features

The built-in context-sensitive editor is designed to help you manage context IDs, source files and commentaries. You may filter the topics by content, index or files and sort the identifiers by duplicate IDs, no context IDs or comments, mark duplicate items, and automatically assign IDs.

Other editing options worth being mentioned enable you to edit the list of files included in the help project, work with a visual designer for defining buttons, navigation pane tabs, main menu, font and colors, enable the CHM viewer for checking out the content of CHM files, and use the API tester mode.

You can edit project properties in terms of general project files (e.g. compiled help, default topic, contents, index, error log), language and font, as well as other options (e.g. create binary table of contents, include keywords from topics, generate CHI index file).

An overall reliable and advanced app

All in all, Portable Precision Helper comes with a comprehensive and powerful suite of features for helping you create help projects in detail, and is suitable especially for professionals.
