Personal Lexicon Description

Learning a new language or perfecting your grammar skills can prove to be challenging tasks, especially if you do not have a suitable mentor. While paying for a qualified teacher can be both efficient and highly expensive, tutoring yourself might yield unexpected outcomes.

In case you want to try learning by yourself, there are a few helpful methods to achieve fast, satisfactory results and one of these ways is by using specialized software. Personal Lexicon is a handy application that can help you refine your linguistic skills by allowing you to generate custom lexicon content.

Note that this utility requires Java Runtime in order to run properly.

Plain user interface

This program comes with a visually unappealing, somewhat outdated design. The splash screen allows you to choose between creating new lexicon items, opening existing ones or downloading a sample file to help you get started.

You can sort your records by browsing various categories from the tree view in the left part of the window and select items to be displayed. The rightmost part of the screen allows you to view detailed information about your word.

Useful word editing functions

Personal Lexicon provides you with multiple ways of editing your content, such as specifying word pronunciation, part of speech or definition, adding synonyms, antonyms or roots and defining personal examples.

You can also use a spell checker for your words, in case you are unsure about typing correctly. This function allows you to toggle spell or grammar check while typing and also simultaneously handling them.

Handy test generator

After you finish learning, it is possible to test your knowledge by generating pop quizzes or more elaborate tests from the dedicated menu, taking or printing them for later reference. In addition, lexicon items can be printed, if you need hard copies of them.

To sum it up, if you want a simple way of learning a new language or foreign words by yourself, and you do not mind a dull user interface, you can use Personal Lexicon.
