nProtect Anti-Virus / Spyware is an anti-malware application that features a real-time guard, multiple scan modes, a quarantine manager, logs, and a wide range of configuration settings. It’s designed to protect your computer from viruses, worms, spyware, hack tools, and other forms of malicious agents lurking on the Internet.
Real-time guard with APT and MBR support
It’s wrapped in a user-friendly interface. Running from the systray, the program gets integrated into the Windows autostart sequence to provide round-the-clock security against incoming threats, thanks to its real-time monitoring module comprised from three components: real-time scan, APT (Advanced Persistent Threat) block, and MBR (Master Boot Record) protection. Exceptions can be defined for each module when it comes to files, drives processes, malicious code, or the System Restore folder.
Virus signatures, cloud scans, and various scan modes
The first thing you have to do after installation is update the virus signatures, which are effective when your machine lacks an active Internet connection. Otherwise, nProtect Anti-Virus / Spyware adds cloud scanning to the mix, in order to detect and eliminate new and unknown threats.
There are multiple scan modes available (basic, full system, scheduled, Explorer), and each one has its own particularities you can explore and customize. These focus on the repair method, scan target (compressed files, boot section, memory, heuristic diagnosis), location, and time of autoscan. Furthermore, you can examine log files, manage the quarantine with infections, and configure alerts for each module.
Evaluation and conclusion
It had minimal impact on the computer’s performance in our tests, running on low CPU and RAM. Scan jobs were carried out pretty fast. However, the real-time guard was not quickly responsive, and some malware files were left behind on the disk after scan.
