NetStock Description
NetStock is a Windows program that you can use to keep track of your stocks and find out when changes occur. It lets you edit and export information, as well as configure many kinds of settings.
Initial configuration and interface
At startp you can make the initial configuration regarding the markets you’re most likely interested it: US and Canadian, or European.
The main application window has a plain appearance but neatly structured layout, enabling you to quickly figure out its options.
View, analyze and edit stocks
A few stocks are listed by default and you can check out their ticker, full name, price, change, date and time, as well as visit their source in the default web browser or look up additional information on BigCharts.com.
In addition, NetStock gives you the possibility to edit their properties. For instance, you can specify indicators for setting off warnings when stocks go above or below a certain level, or mention the amount of owned shares, cost basis, and option price.
Export data and tinker with settings
It’s possible to print all these details, copy them to the Clipboard, or save them as text documents for Quicken or MetaStock. The tool also lets you purge the quotes history, customize data preferences (e.g. alarms, quote source, number formats), handpick the columns to display while ignoring the rest, and configure network parameters concerning automatic updates, the network timeout, hostname lookup method, and proxy.
Evaluation and conclusion
The software utility worked smoothly in our tests, without hanging, crashing or prompting error messages. It didn’t hog system resources, since it required low CPU and memory to function normally.
On the other hand, the application doesn’t implement options for adding new stock entries to the list from scratch, and the ones listed are no longer available, since NetStock hasn’t been updated for a long time.
