MPC-BE (Media Player Classic – Black Edition) is a lightweight, open-source media player for Windows. It’s based on the classic Media Player Classic, but updated with a modern interface, new features, and support for a wide range of formats.

βœ… 1. Download & Install


βœ… 2. Open and Play Media Files

  • Drag & drop a media file into MPC-BE
    or
  • Go to File > Open File... and select a video/audio file

Supports virtually all formats without needing codecs.

  • Name the subtitle file the same as the video (e.g., movie.mkv and movie.srt) and keep in the same folder β€” MPC-BE will auto-load it.
  • Or load manually: File > Load Subtitle... or Ctrl + L
  • Customize font/size under:
    View > Options > Subtitles

βœ… 5. Switch Audio Tracks

  • If your file has multiple audio tracks (e.g. English, Japanese):
    • Press A or Ctrl + A to cycle through them
    • Or right-click on video > Audio > Audio Track

Go to: View > Options > Video

  • Choose renderer (EVR Custom is default and smooth)
  • Set aspect ratio, scaling, deinterlacing
  • Enable shaders for better playback (e.g., sharpen or color fix)

  • Press Alt + I to capture a frame
  • Or go to File > Save Image...
  • You can also do automated thumbnails with File > Save Thumbnails

  • DVD: File > Open DVD
  • Blu-ray: File > Open Blu-ray
  • Online stream: File > Open File/URL... and paste the media URL

  • Hotkey customization: View > Options > Keys
  • Filters: Check active decoders under Play > Filters
  • Playback speed: Use + or - to speed up/slow down playback
