Mp3tag is a powerful and easy-to-use tool for editing metadata (tags) of audio files like MP3, FLAC, AAC, OGG, WMA, and many others.
π΅ What Is Mp3tag?
Mp3tag lets you manage and edit audio file tags such as:
- Title
- Artist
- Album
- Year
- Genre
- Album art (cover image)
- Track number
- Lyrics and more
It supports batch editing, which makes it ideal for organizing entire music libraries.
π§ How to Use Mp3tag
β 1. Download & Install
- Website: https://www.mp3tag.de/en/
- Download and install the version for Windows or Mac.
- Once installed, launch the app.
β 2. Load Your Music Files
- You can drag and drop files or folders into Mp3tag, or:
- Go to
File > Add Directoryand select your music folder.

- Mp3tag will display all the files and their current tags in a spreadsheet-like view.
β 3. Edit Tags (Individually or in Bulk)
β€ Edit a Single File
- Click a file to highlight it.
- Edit tags in the left-hand pane (e.g., title, artist, album).
- Press Ctrl + S or click the Save icon to apply changes.
β€ Batch Edit Multiple Files
- Select multiple files (hold
ShiftorCtrl). - Type new tag info in the left panel.
- Click Save β the tags will apply to all selected files.
β 4. Rename Files from Tags
You can automatically rename files using tag data:
- Go to
Convert > Tag - Filenameor pressAlt + 1. - Enter a pattern, e.g.:
%artist% - %title% - This will rename files like:
Coldplay - Yellow.mp3
β 5. Import Tag Info from File Names
If your files are named like Artist - Title.mp3, you can extract tags from them:
- Go to
Convert > Filename - Tagor pressAlt + 2. - Use a format like:
%artist% - %title%
β 6. Add Album Art
- Select one or more files.
- Right-click the cover area (bottom-left corner) >
Add cover... - Choose an image (usually JPG or PNG).
- Click Save to embed it into the audio file.
β 7. Use Online Tag Sources
Mp3tag can look up tag info from online sources like:
- Discogs
- freedb
- MusicBrainz
Go to Tag Sources in the top menu and choose a source to search by album or track.
β 8. Save and Export
Once youβre done editing:
- Press Ctrl + S to save all changes.
- You can also export tag data to TXT, CSV, or HTML using
File > Export.
