MP3Freund is a straightforward and simple-to-use piece of software capable of automatically scanning your music library and putting together all files in a classification list based on various criteria. It doesn’t contain complex options or configuration parameters, making it accessible to even less experienced users.
Quick setup and initial configuration
The setup procedure is rapid and very easy, thanks to the fact that the installer bundles familiar buttons.
At startup, it is necessary to make an initial configuration when it comes to the UI language, storage location for saving app data, along with manual or automatic software updating mode.
It is also possible to select one of the installed audio players from the computer (provided that it’s supported by MP3Freund), as well as to pick the action on double-click (e.g. play). What’s more, you can indicate one or multiple folders to serve at the scanning location for the music library.
Simple interface and options
The GUI is represented by a standard window with a neatly organized structure, where you can scan the music library and check out a list with all identified files, together with their containing folder, size, rating, number of times used, and date of creation.
By default, the app looks up file names, folder names, and metadata, but any of these components can be removed from the search. It is possible to rate a song from 1 to 5 stars, enqueue it in the audio player chosen at the initial configuration, rebuild the cache if the music library has been updated in the meantime, and so on.
Evaluation and conclusion
We haven’t encountered any unpleasant situations in our tests as far as stability goes, thanks to the fact that MP3Freund didn’t hang, crash or pop up error messages. It has a good response time and minimal impact on computer performance, using low CPU and RAM.
Although it is not particularly feature-rich, you can give MP3Freund a chance to see whether it meets your requirements or not when it comes to straightforward music indexing.
