Min Vid is an easy-to-use browser extension for Mozilla Firefox, which pops out YouTube videos and plays them in a small frame. This way, you can multitask and visit other Internet pages or even work outside the web browser while keeping an eye on the video.
Popout video player for Firefox users
Developed by Mozilla, the software utility is part of Firefox Test Pilot and available for Mac OS X and Linux, in addition to Windows. Although this is not explicitly mentioned by the developer, it only works with YouTube clips.
Once the addon is integrated with Firefox, you can open a YouTube page, search for a clip, and play it. You should easily notice a new icon that overlays the video. It’s displayed for a short time in the upper-left corner after moving the mouse cursor to the clip, and it can be clicked to pop out the video.
Move the popout video anywhere inside or outside Firefox
The smaller frame can be dragged and dropped anywhere comfortable on the screen, where you have enough visibility without the player getting in the way of your work. Once the video finishes playing, you can replay it or exit.
As far as player controls are concerned, you can seek a position, adjust or mute volume, open it in a new tab, or minimize the video player to show only the navigational buttons without the image (basically becoming an audio player).
Another aspect worth noting is that it’s not necessary to keep the YouTube tab opened since the popout video is independent. It’s seen by Firefox as just another instance. Thanks to this, it’s possible to keep the player on top of any virtual surface besides the web browser. This means that you can view YouTube videos even when working on the desktop or within other applications (stays on top of other windows).

We haven’t experienced any compatibility issues with the newest Firefox version in our testing. It worked smoothly and didn’t cause any page rendering errors.
Taking everything into account, Min Vid is a simple, yet practical popout video player for Firefox users which produces similar effects as the YouTube app available for smartphones.
