Membrane is a smooth-running and highly intuitive piece of software that is designed from the ground up to help you design beautiful artwork for your album covers.
Before anything, you should know that this application requires Adobe Air to be present on your computer’s system. This said, it is a good thing that the utility’s installer packs the aforementioned runtime, making the whole deployment process far less stressful.
Well-organized and modern-looking UI
Upon launching the application, you are met by the app’s black-themed and novice-accessible user interface.
The main window is split into three main parts, a left-sided panel that encompasses the self-explanatory Library, Workspace and Settings sections, a panel on the right side that packs all the editing tools and the actual workspace in the middle.
Create eye-catching album artwork from scratch or use the provided templates
This said, you can start projects from scratch by loading everything you need or, even simpler, you can take advantage of the multiple available templates and tweak them according to your needs.
Regardless of your experience with similar apps, you are bound to discover this to be a very easy-to-use application. Practically, the workflow revolves around you having to add graphics, edit texts and moving them around until you are satisfied with the results.
Add watermarks to your projects and export them in practically no time
It is worth mentioning that from the Settings section, you can also provide your projects with a sense of ownership with the addition of text or image-based watermarks.
Once you’re done, just export your work to PNG or JPG files, or even .membrane format, that can be later edited or even shared with other Membrane users. Also noteworthy is the fact that the app offers you the possibility to choose the export quality with the following three thresholds: Low, Medium and High.
An honest and pretty competent app, but that’s no to say it couldn’t be a bit better
Taking everything into consideration, it is safe to say that Membrane has a lot going for it, starting with its user-friendliness and modern interface and finishing with its collection of templates.
Be that as it may, we can’t but state that this could be a much more appealing application if only it would have at least packed a few basic image editing options or even a small collection of filters, just to make things a bit more interesting.
