Leawo PowerPoint to iPad Description

Leawo PowerPoint to iPad is a software application that enables you to make PowerPoint presentations compatible with iPad devices, by turning them into MP4 videos: MPEG-4 (640×480), HD (1280×720) or H.264 (768×576).

It’s also able to convert the presentations into common video files (MOV, MPEG-4 or H.264 MP4) and to extract the audio streams to save them as M4A (MPEG-4), WAV, AAC (MPEG-2) or MP3 tracks. Audio and video configuration together with custom profiles are supported.

Installation and interface

The setup operation doesn’t take a long time to finish. However, the app requires that you have Microsoft PowerPoint or Microsoft PowerPoint Viewer installed.

As far as the GUI is concerned, Leawo PowerPoint to iPad adopts an attractive window with an intuitive structure, where you can get started by importing PowerPoint presentations.

Import and preview PowerPoint presentations

Batch processing is supported, so you can add as many slideshows as you want to convert them at the same time. Worth noting, though, is that the program opens each PowerPoint file in the viewer as soon as they are added to the task list.

File information includes the name, slide count, size and default destination for each file. They can be previewed in a built-in slideshow player and re-arranged in the job list.

Edit and create output profiles

In order to start the conversion task, you can specify the preferred output profile and destination, along with the audio and video quality level. Advanced users may tinker with audio and video parameters when it comes to the codec, bit rate, video size, frame rate, aspect ratio, sample rate and channels, and even create new profiles with custom configurations.

Customize presentations and add watermarks

More options are available for the input files. For instance, you can modify the default transition time between slides, insert a soundtrack and ignore any existing audio stream in the presentation file, as well as keep the aspect ratio of slides. These settings can be applied to the PowerPoint files individually or to all of them.

Moreover, you can instruct Leawo PowerPoint to iPad to overwrite any existing files in the output or to rename the recent ones, embed a logo image and customize properties (e.g. alpha, transparency), as well as fiddle with the video layout regarding the margin size and fill picture or color.

Evaluation and conclusion

Conversion tasks were carried out rather slowly in our tests, during which the program used a significant amount of system resources. No error dialogs popped up and it didn’t freeze or crash. Multiple UI languages are supported.

It hasn’t been updated for a long time, though, and there’s no way to avoid installing one of the two Microsoft apps for PPT viewing.

Overall, Leawo PowerPoint to iPad comes equipped with rich options to help you prepare and customize PowerPoint slideshows for playback on iPads, as well as to convert them to common video and audio file types. It has drawbacks, however.
