Jovial Notepad Description

Text editing applications don’t only provide a virtual sheet of paper to write on but can also be used as a workspace for programming. Several specialized applications like Jovial Notepad try to offer some support by highlighting syntax to offer a little extra comfort if coding is your mother language.

A lightweight and straightforward text editor

Running the application brings up your workspace which, except for the toolbar, takes up all of the main window space. One of the core features, and probably the only, is syntax highlight and works for both SQL and XML.

Unfortunately, as far as functionality stretches, this is the only advantage over what your operating system provides by default as a text editor. Even a proper file extension is missing, as you can only save to TXT or RTF.

Insert several symbols and encrypt your text

Only a few minutes in the application and you realize possibilities are limited. You manage to find a “Symbols” menu which puts roughly two dozen symbols at your disposal that can inserted.

One of the biggest disappointments is that, even though font and color can be changed, you have to access settings through the file menu every time you need this done. Moreover, several hotkeys are available but only presets with no possibility of adding your own.

What tips the scale a little in its favor is the encryption option meant to secure your document. However, doing so only converts your text based on a given keyword, and even the slightest change in the generated code puts you at risk of permanently losing your data.

To end with

Taking everything into consideration, we can say that Jovial Notepad is simply another text editor with no significant innovations brought to its kind. It’s fairly simple to use with nothing that keeps your eyes glued to the screen or to get your attention in any way.
