ipMIDI Description

ipMIDI is a lightweight application that was designed to help users route MIDI over their Ethernet networks. The process is based on ports that can send or receive MIDI signals between computers that are available on the network.

This program can come in handy especially for musicians or sound engineers that have several computers connected via MIDI interfaces or cables since it can replace them. Users can make any application communicate with another suitable one without relying on extra physical connections. Therefore, it eliminates the need for MIDI cables or other auxiliary interfaces.

This program transfers MIDI signals over Multicast UDP and does not use TCP. Users need to select “Ethernet Midi” in their audio application in order to benefit from ipMIDI’s capabilities. It does not need them to define senders, receivers, masters or slaves. After choosing an Ethernet MIDI OUT port for the sending app, every appropriate program available on the network can receive the MIDI signals by opening an Ethernet MIDI IN port at the same time.

The data is not visible on the Internet, as it is transferred exclusively via subnet. Therefore, users do not need to worry about their data being transferred across a router.

Limitations in the unregistered version

  • The Trial works for 60 minutes after it has sent its first MIDI data. After every reboot it will work again for a period of 60 minutes.
