EdgeDeflector Description

If you’re a technically-inclined Windows 10 user, then we’re sure you know that Microsoft’s policy regarding its beloved Edge browser is a bit rigid, to say the least.

Feeling that Microsoft Edge is a bit too “in your face”? There’s an app for that…

You may have noticed that sometimes when Windows 10 upgrades or when you install a new browser on your computer, the default browser is automatically switched back to Edge.

Happily, there’s a nifty and unobtrusive, little app that can help you solve this “problem.” Appropriately-called EdgeDeflector, it intercepts any URL that would usually be forced-open in Microsoft Edge and efficiently redirects it to your computer’s default web browser instead.

Uncomplicated and quick installation process

It’s quite easy to install, but it does require a small amount of attention on your part to make it work. The good news is that once installed and properly set up, you won’t have to interact with it again, since, as mentioned before, it does all its magic in the background.

That said, there’s what you need to do: install the app, go to its default installation location and run it with full administrator rights. At this point, the effects can already be seen or felt (feel free to open any ULR via Cortana, for example), but there’s one more thing you need to care of.

Only requires a small amount of work time before you get it up and running

Head over to Settings, access the Default apps section and click on the “Choose default apps by protocol” option from the lower part of the window. Scroll down until your find the MICROSOFT-EDGE protocol (keep your eyes on the extreme left side of the window), click the “Choose a default” button, and choose EdgeDeflector as the default app for the job.

Mind you, if EdgeDeflector is not present in the previously described section, restart your computer and repeat the process until you’re able to successfully choose EdgeDeflector.

No more force-opened links in Microsoft Edge

Taking everything into account, EdgeDeflector is a neatly-designed, little tool that is sure to enhance your Windows 10 user experience, bypassing what may very well be considered one of Microsoft’s typical anti-competitive practices, in this case, regarding its bespoke browser.
