Dummy File Creator Portable Description

This is the portable version of Dummy File Creator, a tiny software application that, as the name implies, lets you generate fake files. It can be used for various purposes, such as fending off virus attacks by leaving dummy files exposed to vulnerabilities.

Portability advantages

Since installation is not required, you can drop the program files to any part of the hard disk and just click the executable to run.

There is also the possibility to save Dummy File Creator to a USB flash disk or similar storage unit, in order to run it on any PC with minimum effort, as long as it has .NET Framework installed.

An important aspect to take into account is that the Windows registry does not get updated with new entries, and no extra files are created on the HDD without your consent, leaving no traces behind after its removal.

Straightforward interface and options

The GUI consists of a single window with a plain and simple structure, where you can ask the program to generate either a single file or multiple items (from a batch list). If the first choice is selected, all you have to do is point out the plain text document’s path and file size, and optionally generate random file content (non-compressible). There are no other notable options available here.

Evaluation and conclusion

The program is undemanding when it comes to CPU and RAM, so it does not affect the PC’s overall performance. We have not come across any problems throughout our evaluation, since it did not hang, crash or pop up error dialogs. Although it is not feature-rich, Dummy File Creator delivers a simple method to creating fake files, and it can be handled by anyone.
