DISM GUI Description

Handling Windows image files in WIM format, as well as virtual hard disks which come as VHD or VHDX files is a specialized activity that cannot be carried out without an appropriate tool at hand. There is a command-line utility that is built-in some versions of Windows and which can take care of these tasks.

For those who prefer accessing the functionality offered by this software solution from a graphical interface, DISM GUI is the program to call for. Quite lightweight in size and ready to run right out of the box, this piece of kit will make it more easy for everyone to access and use the features of Deployment Image Servicing and Management, or DISM in short.

The plain interface is designed for practicality and convenience in use and has all the commands neatly organized and placed each under the corresponding tab. When working with DISM GUI, the first step consists of loading the WIM file, specifying the index and mount location.

In order to add or delete drivers, you can head on to the ‘Driver Management’ area where you have at your disposal two useful buttons that are made to retrieve third-party driver information from the Windows image file or get all the driver data from the selected WIM. The packages available on the loaded disk image file can be managed in a similar fashion, while the contained features can be enabled or disabled with a single mouse click.

There are a couple of servicing actions you can carry out for the WIMs, namely settings the product key as well as the edition to the desired values. Insofar as the applications that exist on the image file are concerned, you will be able to enter product and patch codes from the related tab of DISM GUI.

On the whole, this program will manage very well the tasks it was created to take care of and even if the looks may be against it, the set of functions it brings will compensate some of that.
