Deluge Description

Deluge is a torrent client that you can use to upload and download data from all over the web.

The user interface looks similar to the ones of more popular torrent clients, since tasks can be initiated in the upper part of the screen, while various information regarding each of them is shown in the lower side.

Once you have added a torrent to the queue, you can select individual parts to download, as well as set the download location and bandwidth.

The program takes a few seconds to start the downloading process, but speed is quite decent. On the lower part of the screen, you can view the status, such as downloading progress bar, share ratio, seeders and peers.

Furthermore, you can view details (e.g. hash, path, number of files, comments, tracker), files (size, progress and priority of each file), peers (addresses, clients, progress, downloading and uploading speed) and options (bandwidth, queue, tracker editing).

On the left side of Deluge’s interface, you can view the state of torrents and filter them by tracker name. Plus, you can force re-check, update and edit trackers, as well as move them to another location.

In Preferences you can set the default download path, enable the prioritization of first and last pieces of the torrent, use specific ports, enable or disable network extras (e.g. UPnP, LSD, Peer Exchange).

Furthermore, you can set global bandwidth usage, password-protect Deluge when it’s minimized to system tray, allow remote connections, configure proxy settings, enable plugins (e.g. AutoAdd, Blocklist, Extractor, Label, Scheduler), customize the interface, and more.

The program uses a moderate amount of system resources, is highly customizable and easy to use by both novices and experts. However, Deluge doesn’t necessarily bring something new to the table except for its plugins (we couldn’t access WebUI without a password), and a downloading task failed due to some unknown error.

Nevertheless, Deluge is a good torrent client and we will probably see more of its capabilities in the future.
