All kinds of data, some of it quite sensitive, goes through the Windows clipboard on a daily basis. Keeping your passwords or other important pieces of information in the clipboard for too long is inadvisable, which is why it may be a good idea to get a utility that can clear it for you.
ClipTTL is a relatively simple app that can do just that – wipe the contents of the clipboard at regular intervals while running quietly in the background. It also performs this action when you lock your PC, and you have the option of erasing the clipboard manually at any time.
Small, portable application that can be deployed easily
ClipTTL can be launched from any location, and you can even put it on a USB drive and enjoy its benefits when working with multiple computers. Nothing needs to be installed, and no traces will be left behind.
The program is only displayed in the system tray area, so it is unlikely to get in your way. As you can probably expect, its resource impact is also minimal.
Wipe the clipboard automatically to keep your data secure
Once launched, ClipTTL adds a new icon in the system tray that shows you if there is any content currently stored in the clipboard. A green icon indicates that the clipboard is empty, while a red one lets you know that it has not yet been cleared.
The application wipes the clipboard every 20 seconds, but it is sadly not possible to customize this interval. You also have the option of clearing clipboard contents manually by clicking the icon, but this action cannot be performed using a hotkey.
Clears sensitive data whenever you lock your PC
If you need to walk away from your computer, you can rest assured that the application will remove any data still stored in the clipboard as soon as you bring up the lock screen.
ClipTTL is a straightforward app that does the job it was designed for quite well – it clears your clipboard at regular intervals, thus keeping sensitive data safe and preventing accidental pastes.
However, we would like to see a couple of new features added in the future, namely an option to customize the wipe interval and one to set up a keyboard shortcut for performing this action.
