Blast2GO Description
Blast2GO is a powerful program which allows you to annotate sequences and sequence analysis. The software is a suitable solution for the bioinformatics field, since it offers comprehensive tools for functional annotation of sequences. In other words, you can attach information regarding the biological functions of protein sequences.
Data analysis, annotations and graphs
Blast2GO offers you the possibility of performing complex data analysis, then add scientific information about the behavior of genes or protein sequences. It is a Java-based independent platform, which allows you to perform comprehensive data analysis. The software can access online databases or libraries of information, thus being able to compare or append data.
Moreover, it facilitates the quick annotation of a large dataset by transferring functional labels from already analysed data to similar sets. The application also offers several tools for statistical analysis or data visualization.
The application allows you to perform blast tests, InterPro scans or data mapping, before adding a large series of annotations and generating statistical charts. The informational panels at the bottom of the window indicate the progress of several processes running in parallel, as well as the analysis result.
Load, analyze and export data
Blast2GO allows you to load entire projects, sequences, analysis results, gene symbols list or annotations, as well as easily export datasets. The analysis implies the comparison with online services. For example the protein blast can be performed via CloudBlast, NCBI, AWS or Local blast. You may also run an InterProScan, using one of the available applications or mapping of the blast hits, for each sequence.
The annotation process implies that you set several parameters, such as e-Value hit filter, HSP-hit coverage or computational analysis evidence codes. The results of annotating the sequences are displayed in the main interface, under the Length, number of Hits, e-Value, sim mean, GO hits, GO list, enzyme list and InterPro scan.
Charts and analysis results
Blast2GO can display a series of charts, in tabbed view, in the area below the main table. Distribution charts can be generated for e-Values, sequence similarity, species and many more. Additionally, each sequence entry is automatically colorized pending a test, in order to indicate the data source. The software is a suitable tool for bio-engineers who study the behavior of genes and proteins, by experimenting.
