Agisoft PhotoScan Professional Description

Agisoft PhotoScan Professional is an advanced software application whose purpose is to help users create 3D files from still images.

Although it comes bundled with many dedicated parameters, it sports a clean layout that allows you to upload files into the working environment using the built-in browse function or “drag and drop” operations.

The tool works with the following file formats: JPG, TIF, PNG, BMP, EXR, PPM, MPO, and others.

Agisoft PhotoScan Professional gives you the possibility to align photos, set up the parameters related to geometry and texture, zoom in or out, rotate the pictures to different angles, as well as delete or crop the selected area.

During the picture alignment operation, the program searches for common points and matches them, while the geometry building process, which is based on the estimated camera positions, displays the photos as 3D polygon meshes.

Once you have designed the geometry of an object, you can proceed with applying several textures, which can be used for orthophoto projects.

When it comes to editing the model geometry, you are allowed to decrease the geometric resolution of the model, remove small isolated mesh fragments based on different criteria, and delete parts from the model geometry manually.

What’s more, you can save your project as a template, export images to GMZ, GML, 3DS, PDF, OBJ, VRML, PLY, or other file formats, perform 4D reconstruction operations for dynamic scenes, create terrain elevation data, as well as set up the geographical coordinates.

Other notable characteristics worth mentioning are represented by the possibility to undo or redo your actions, apply masks, measure distances between control points, insert markers, as well as use Python commands and scripts via the “Console” panel.

All in all, Agisoft PhotoScan Professional proves to be a reliable application that provides a complete suite of tools, useful especially for creating georeferenced orthophotos. The program is suitable for professional users, as it comprises many advanced features. Rookies can check the standard version of the program but it doesn’t offer support for Digital Elevation Model options, georeferencing operations, and Python scripts.
