Acala DivX DVD Player Assist Description

Acala DivX DVD Player Assist is a software application that you can use to turn common video files into DVD movies and burn them to disc, in order to make them compatible with DVD players. It supports several formats for the input, such as AVI, DIVX, XVID, MPEG and MOV.

The interface of the application is plain and fairly simple to work with. Loading videos into the workspace is done using either the file browser or “drag and drop” method. You can add as many clips as you want to transform into a single movie, as long as the final size is supported by the disc capacity.

The file list shows the source path, default start and end time, output directory and progress for each item. It is possible to preview each clip in a built-in media player, capture frames to the PNG format, as well as to trim the videos by marking the start and end position using a slider.

Advanced users may tinker with some audio and video settings in regard to the bit rate, frame size, frame rate, aspect ratio, sample rate, volume level and channel mode. Unfortunately, you cannot create output profiles or restore settings to their default values. However, Acala DivX DVD Player Assist can be set to automatically power off the computer when the task is done.

Burning videos to a DVD disc as the final solution is not mandatory. Alternatively, you can save the new files to the hard drive, after specifying the target folder. The former option, however, comes with a few configurable parameters of its own. For instance, you can select the writing device and speed, and enter the label, as well as organize videos into directories.

Acala DivX DVD Player Assist is light on the system resources, has a good response time and takes a reasonable amount of time to complete a task, depending on how many videos you have submitted for processing, as well as on the settings you have chosen.

No error dialogs have been shown throughout our evaluation, and the app did not hang or crash. Too bad that the tool has not been updated for a very long time. Nevertheless, Acala DivX DVD Player Assist should satisfy the entire audience, thanks to its intuitive layout and advanced settings.
