1X-Ripper is an application that can rip your audio CDs and save songs to the WAV or MP3 format. But it can also convert items between WAV and MP3.
The interface of the program is plain and simple to navigate through. You can add the contents of an audio CD by selecting its source from the drop-down list. WAV and MP3 tracks can be imported from a local drive by using only the file browser (“drag and drop” is not supported). It is possible to create a queue and process multiple entries simultaneously.
In the file list you can check out the artist and name of each song. If you prefer the default settings, then all you have to do is specify the output directory and file type, in order to initialize the conversion procedure.
Otherwise, you can configure audio settings when it comes to the sample rate, bit rate, channel mode and quality. Unfortunately, you cannot restore settings to default or create output profiles. Additionally, you can edit ID3 tags.
The audio processing tool needs a low amount of system CPU and memory, in order to finish a task in reasonable time. 1X-Ripper is very responsive and delivers a good sound quality in the output audio tracks. No errors have occurred during our testing and the tool did not freeze or crash.
On the other hand, you cannot set 1X-Ripper to automatically turn off the computer or to open the destination folder after encoding. Plus, you cannot specify the thread priority or preview songs in a built-in audio player. The interface needs some improvements but we must keep in mind that 1X-Ripper has not been updated for a while.
