J7Z Description

J7Z is a very simple program that allows you to compress files and extract information from archives.

The user interface of the tool is clean and intuitive. You can get started by selecting an action – “Create” or “Extract”.

When it comes to compressing files, J7Z supports the 7-Zip, XZ, BZip2, GZip, Zip and Tar algorithms. You can also select the compression method (from ‘None’ to ‘Ultra’) and number of volumes (e.g. custom, DVD).

Additionally, you can check the option to create a self-extracting executable, enable switches and header encryption, as well as set a password and perform a test.

In matter of file extraction, J7Z supports several extensions (including RAR, ISO and CHM). All you have to do is select the source file and destination path (optionally create a new folder).

Furthermore, J7Z allows you to save, load and reset profiles, as well as save, load and edit lists, toggle Verbose mode, view history (in “Review” under “Action”), clear history (in “History” under “Option”), edit and reset external text documents and set the tool to automatically exit once a task is completed.

The program uses a high amount of CPU and system memory when it’s busy with a task, but manages to complete it in a reasonable amount of time. Its capabilities can be best seen when dealing with large quantities of information. For example, it managed to compress a 533MB file in 23 seconds.

Unfortunately, J7Z is incomplete when it comes to user documentation, but it’s simple enough to be handled even by novices. The program may lack the advanced settings of more powerful similar products, but it does a very good job overall.
